Case Against Debt Settlement Company Working for State of Ohio

We recently resolved a case against a debt settlement company that was working for the State of Ohio in an illegal manner outside of court. The company was charging fees in excess of what O.R.C. 4710 permits. The company also was not licensed as a foreign business in the State of Ohio, and they engaged in deceptive conduct to retain the consumer. Ultimately this debt settlement company did not settle a single debt for the client, but took in excess of $4,000 in fees for its nonexistent services.

In this case, we were on the plaintiff side, not the defense side. We ultimately recovered far more than the client paid in fees to the settlement company, as well as our attorney fees. Our client was also getting sued by a debt buyer. He was able to take the money we recovered for him to settle with the creditor.
